Plain, his brother, Dennis, 18, two other brothers, James Mullen, 18, and Robert Mullen, 15, of Massena, and Arnold Edwards, 20, of Cumberland, were hospitalized at Atlantic. Anita Tribune December 1, 1960 Page 1 RONALD EDEN DIES IN THANKSGIVING DAY MISHAP NEAR MASSENA Ronald Lee Eden, 16, son of Mrs. Mabel Eden and the late Leonard Eden of Cumberland, was killed in an automobile accident on highway 92 near the county maintenance shed, three miles west of Massena, Thanksgiving afternoon. Young Eden, a sophomore in the Cumberland & Massena High school, and a second car driven by Lester Plain, 20, of Cumberland, were headed west; Eden attempted to pass and lost control of his car - it bounced off the south shoulder and back again to sideswipe the Plain vehicle, sending both cars on wild drives. Eden's car slid about 400 feet, hitting a utility pole and killing him instantly. His body was found another 94 feet from the car. The Plain car careened some 300 feet, also hitting a utility pole. The driver suffered chest and shoulder injuries; his brother Dennis, 18, and James Mullen, 18, of Massena were not seriously injured; James' brother Robert, 15, suffered a head concussion, and Arnold Edwards, 20, Cumberland, had head lacerations. All were passengers in the Plain car. One was thrown 112 feet from the car and another 45 feet. At the first of the week it was reported that the Mullen boy was improved, but the condition of Lester Plain remained critical. Ronald Lee Eden, was born June 23, 1944. His mother was the former Mabel Jensen; his father preceded him in death in December 1959. Three brothers and a sister also survive. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at First Lutheran church, south of Wiota, with the Rev. M. H. Brandt, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lawrence Waldau, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Schoenbohm and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Eversole were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Dean Zimmerman and Mrs. Don Steffens, accompanied by Mrs. William Freese, sang "Asleep in the Arms of Jesus," and "In God, My Faithful God." Casket bearers were Dennie Schoenbohm, Duane Rathman, Michael Eversole, Ralph Wickey, LeRoy Olson, and Gary Bannick.
