Description	:	Born Rosalene Stalzer on May 8th, 1931, Rosie was the daughter of Victor and Alma (Hoffmann) Stalzer. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Haverhill and St. Mary’s High School in Marshalltown with the Class of 1949. Later that same year, on November 24th, she married the love of her life, Albert Mayer, Jr., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Haverhill and St. Mary’s High School in Marshalltown with the Class of 1949. Later that same year, on November 24th, she married the love of her life, Albert Mayer, Jr., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They made their home in Marshalltown all their married lives where she took the role of wife and mother. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, the Eagles Lodge, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Rosie held an honorary position as a Meskwaki alumnus and casino ambassador! No one was left out of family dinners and gatherings and her heart grew fuller when more plates were added to the table. She enjoyed reading (and was seldom without a romance novel), going to the casino, gardening, camping, canning, crocheting and Iowa Hawkeye Football tailgating. At the age of 83, Rosalene “Rosie” Stalzer Mayer departed this life with a tear in her eye and a star in the sky on the morning of Wednesday, April 22nd, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with her eight children at her side: Carol (Keith) Niedermann, Dianne Walters, Vickie (Mark) McVey, Nick (Teri) Mayer, Mike (Nancy) Mayer, Tom Mayer, Terri (Dennis) Elliott, and Julie Mayer. She is also survived by grandchildren Cherie Drummer, Steph (Brian) Patro, Heidi Niedermann, Jamie (Heather) Niedermann, Nicole Eubanks, Nathan Mayer, Jordan Mayer, Halen Mayer, Megan Mayer, Amy (Dan) McCready, Ryan Elliott, Dustin (Paige) Elliott, Justin McVey, Jennifer (Ryan) Baldwin, Matthew Walters, and Cassandra Mayer; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In death, Rosie rejoined her beloved Albert and her mother, Alma. Visitation was held from 1-3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. The funeral mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 27th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Bahl officiating. Rosie was laid to rest next to Albert in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Haverhill at a later date. Her family invited all attending to wear their favorite Hawkeye attire or anything black and gold.
