He was buried at Rochester, Iowa, his birthplace, services being conducted at the Methodist church. Surviving are his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Anderson, of Rocheseter, and two sisters and four brothers - Mesdames Gladys Conley and Fern Lewis; and Messrs. Donald, Vance, Harold and Oscar Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a supporter though not a member of the Methodist church, and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, Cedar camp. He was one of the fathers of that lodge, and won the distinction of securing the greatest number of new members for it, during the spirited fraternal contest. He had been a trusted merchant of Rochester during the last nine years. 24 September 1925 - West Branch Times Roscoe Arden Anderson, the eldest son of J. D. and Jane Anderson was born near Rochester, Iowa, on June 6, 1888. After a bitter struggle with internal cancer he passed away at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa at 7:40 o'clock Friday morning, Sept. 18, 1925. Mr. Anderson spent his youth in attending school in Rochester and working on the farm with his father. On March 25, 1909, he was united in marriage with Miss Mabel Wilson of Rochester. The young couple settled on the Anderson farm where they lived for eight years. In 1916 they moved to Rochester where Mr. Anderson conducted a general merchandise store until the time of his death. He was always interested in the welfare of the community. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America, being quite a worker in Cedar Camp No. 8400. He had the honor of having secured the largest number of new members for the lodge. He took a great interest in the store which he built himself and always sought to make it an attractive business house. He was a man who appreciated his home. He loved children, though he had none of his own. He was especially interested in his little nieces and nephews. He never neglected the children in the store, but always spoke to them whenever they came in. One child remarked that he had lost his best friend in Mr. Anderson. He was courageous in his fight against the disease which constantly kept him in great pain and finally conquered his body, but not his spirit. He was a good neighbor and a kind friend and the whole community will miss him. Though not a member, he was interested in the church and gave it his personal and financial support. Before he died he acknowledged his trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and was baptized in the Christian faith. In this faith he found rest as he quietly slipped away into eternity. He leaves to hold him in loving remembrance his devoted wife, Mabel, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Anderson, four brothers, Oscar, Harold, Vance and Donald, two sisters, Mrs. Fern Lewis and Mrs. Gladys Conley, and hosts of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church of Rochester by Rev. W. C. Perdew, assisted by Mr. McKinley, on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20. The body was laid to rest in the Rochester cemetery. Roscoe was married to Mabel Wilson. After his death, Mabel married Lawrence Crees 14 June 1927. Mabel died 12 April 1972 and is buried next to Lawrence at Oak Ridge cemetery in West Liberty.
