LEUSCHEN, 78 EARLING – Funeral services for Mrs. Rose A. Leuschen were held Saturday, August 28, 1967 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Earling. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter A. Bissen officiated and was Celebrant of the Requiem High Mass. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 78 years, one month and 9 days. Rose A. Langenfeld, daughter of August and Anna Katherine (Freund) Langenfeld, was born July 14, 1889 at Johnsburg, Wisconsin. At the age of 16 she moved to Iowa with her parents and they lived on a farm west of Earling, Iowa. She was married to Ben Leuschen, August 28, 1917, at St. Joseph's Church in Earling, with the Rev. Joseph Steiger officiating. They made their home on a farm south of Westphalia, Iowa. This union was blessed with a son, William and a daughter, Virginia. Her husband passed away November 22, 1941. She remained on the farm for several years until her son married and then moved into an apartment in Earling at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. John (Dora) Heese, and she was employed in the Post Office. The past few years she spent much of her time at the home of her son and family. After she suffered a stroke she was hospitalized at Harlan, then spent some time in the home of her son. In June she went to Little Flower Haven in Earling, and recently again was hospitalized more than a month at Harlan, where she passed away Wednesday, August 23, 1967. Survivors include her son, William of Woodbine, Iowa, daughter, Mrs. Leon (Virginia) Cotton of Carter Lake, Iowa, 18 grandchildren, her sister, Mrs. John (Dora) Heese and a brother, Henry Langenfeld of Earling, Iowa. Her husband and a granddaughter, Marla Rose Leuschen, preceded her in death on 29 October 1966. She was a member of St. Joseph's Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Katherine No. 266. Serving as pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased, Orlando Langenfeld of Omaha, Nebraska; Merle Langenfeld of Vail, Iowa; Don Leuschen and Walt Leuschen of Panama, Iowa; and Joe Leuschen and Alfons Klein of Earling, Iowa.
