Afire broke out in the roof and the facility was declared dangerous and closed. the building was demolished in 1934 or 1935. Rose McNally continued to work as a nurse and ran a hospital in Exira, Iowa before retiring to her home in Exira. From there, she resided with her sister in Ottumwa, Iowa. She died 10 February 1959 at the Old Soldier's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
