Rose Marian Gordon was born at Francesville, Indiana, in 1868, the daughter of Moses and Emma Gordon. She attended the Spencer high school, and Normal School at Winamac, Indiana. Read More	Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, for Rose Dearing, 80, who passed away at her home in Seward early Sunday morning. Rose Marian Gordon was born at Francesville, Indiana, in 1868, the daughter of Moses and Emma Gordon. She attended the Spencer high school, and Normal School at Winamac, Indiana. She became the bride of Elmer E. Betzer of Seward on October 22, 1891 and came to Seward and became associated with her husband in the publication of the Blue Valley Blade for over thirty-six of the fifty years his name appeared at the mast head. Following the death of Elmer Betzer she continued to publish the Blade until the present owners took over in September of 1927. After disposing of her interest in the Blue Valley Blade, she made a trip to Europe, visiting in Holland, Switzerland and Belgium, and other points, and after her return she was married to Wm. B. Dearing of Seward. She was a member of the Congregational church, the Nebraska Writers' Guild, the Order of the Eastern Star, and a past member of the Margaret Holmes Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, WRC, Community Club, Royal Neighbors, the Nebraska Press Association, and the National Editorial Association. After severing her connection she retained her love for the newspaper life by contributing news items to the office as late as the day before her death. She also sent articles occasionally to the Lincoln and Omaha newspapers. Survivors besides her husband, Wm. B. Dearing, are a sister, Mrs. L. H. Diers of Seward, two brothers, Byron B. of Logansport, Indiana, and Paul of Spencer, Indiana. Also two nephews, C. G. Diers of Salt Lake City, Utah and S. Gordon of Logansport, Indiana. Five nieces, Mrs. Edgar Sievers, Scottsbluff, Nebr., Mrs. Carl Norcross of New York City, Mrs. Rod Perry of York, Nebr., Mrs. Wm. Hoppe of Lincoln, and Mrs. Cash Kreigh of Logansport, Indiana. The writer came to Seward in 1914 as an employee of the Blue Valley Blade, and the friendship which began at that time has continued throughout the years up to the present time. We will miss hearing her voice over the telephone asking "What's the news?" "Did you hear that ---have a new baby---and did you know that---and---were married?"
