Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege. Rose Ella Olson, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Rose was born July 24, 1920 at Atwood, Kansas, the fourth of nine children of Roy and Catherine (Atkins) Blauvelt. When Rose was a young girl the family moved to Holdrege where she received her education, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1941. On December 19, 1942, Rose was united in marriage to Morris G. "Mike" Olson and to this union four children were born: Connie, Arlen, Nancy and John. The family made their home on a farm north of Holdrege. Rose received her training in Cosmetology and started her career in Brady, Texas, where her husband was stationed at Curtis Field with the Army Air Force. Upon returning to Nebraska, she owned and operated Rose's Beauty Salon in rural Holdrege until her retirement. After her retirement from the beauty salon, Rose kept busy supporting the family in the farming operation and Olson Flying Service. On October 26, 2000 she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike. She was an active member of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church, where she was involved in Whitecross and member of the W.M.S. She volunteered her time quilting at the Senior Center, was a member of the Skunk Hollow Gang for over fifty years, enjoyed water aerobics at the Y.M.C.A. of the Prairie, loved tending to her own yard until she was 87 years of age, was a talented cook, baker and loved hosting family gatherings. A favorite time of year, was always spent baking traditional Swedish foods with her daughters and niece, Julie Johnson. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dog, Penny. She leaves to mourn her passing her four children: Connie Streeter and her husband, Don of Holdrege, Arlen Olson of Holdrege, Nancy Naumann and her husband, Darl of Lincoln, Nebraska and John Olson and his wife, Linda of Holdrege; Rose was blessed to have nine grandchildren: Cindy Wilson of Holdrege, Lanny Lambrecht and his wife, Mary of Holdrege, Kim Jonas and her husband, Todd of Ansley, Nebraska, Darcie Ross and her husband, Troy of Denton, Nebraska, Jared Olson and his fiancé, Abby Karre of Kearney, Nebraska, Michaela Olson and special friend, Ryan Pfeiffer of Lincoln, Ingrid Hurt and her husband, Nick of Philadelphia, PA, Anne-Marie Manket and her husband, Michael of Columbus, Ohio and Sam Naumann of Lincoln; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Calvia Jackson of Holdrege, LaDonna Hanson and her husband, Virgil of Boulder, CO and LaDena Menz and her husband, Larry of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; one brother, Bruce Blauvelt and his wife, Ali of San Diego, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Among her close friends were Gene Polhemus and his second wife, Soffia. Gene's late wife Helen was her best friend from the mid-1940's until her death in 1970. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Irven Blauvelt; three sisters: Pearl Exceen, Viola Jones and Neila VonLoh.
