As Rose Josephine Sawin, the youngest of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. William Sawin, she was born October 22, 1876, in Carroll County, Missouri. In her youth she was active in church work and served as organist at the Liberty Methodist church for a number of years. On November 2, 1899 she was united in marriage to Horace Heiney, who preceded her in death on November 11, 1908. To this union three daughters were born, Mrs. Therma Ebbert, Sacramento, California, Mrs. Leah Williamson, Yermo, California, and Mrs. Nellis Horine, Norbourne, Missouri. Mrs. Heiney was married to Charles M. Sawin on January 1, 1910. Three daughters were born to this union, Mrs. Edith Williamson, Rogue River, Oregon, Ruth, Mrs. Glen Martin, Holyoke, and Charlene, Mrs. Chester Poe, Holyoke. In 1926, Mr. and Mrs. Sawin and their three daughters moved from Carroll County, Missouri to a farm west of Amherst. They lived there several years and on other farms around Holyoke. They moved to Holyoke in the fall of 1935 and Mrs. Sawin operated a maternity home for several years. Surviving Mrs. Sawin are her husband; the six daughters already mentioned; one sister, Mrs. May Godwin, who is 91 years old; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
