Description	:	Rose, the daughter of Niels and Ella (Plambeck) Jorgensen was born on the family farm in the Dagmar community October 1, 1919. She grew up there, attended grade schools near the farm and “Dane School” at the Nathanael Church at Dagmar. When she started school, she spoke only Danish, the native language of her parents. Read More	Rose, the daughter of Niels and Ella (Plambeck) Jorgensen was born on the family farm in the Dagmar community October 1, 1919. She grew up there, attended grade schools near the farm and “Dane School” at the Nathanael Church at Dagmar. When she started school, she spoke only Danish, the native language of her parents. She stayed at home to farm with her family for two years, but later graduated from Antelope High School. In the spring of 1942, she and her sisters Ella and Agnes went to Portland to work in the shipyards. Rose started as a shipfitter’s helper, and worked her way up to being a shipfitter and a tack welder. Her story, and that of two other women, was featured in a PBS documentary in the early 1990's. While she was working in the shipyard, she met Ernest Torgerson; they were married April 2 1944 in Portland. That fall they moved back to Rose’s Jorgensen family farm at Dagmar, which was being operated by her family while she was in Portland. They farmed at Dagmar, where Rose was constantly busy, both farming, and also as a Cub Scout leader and a mom. In 1962 they moved to Chinook, Montana, where they owned a “Norge Village” laundromat until 1979; and in 1980 returned to Dagmar where they lived until Ernie’s death April 14, 2001. Rose was a board member of the Sheridan County Council on Aging for 23 years, volunteered at the Glenwood Thrift Shop, and enjoyed bowling. Over the years she was “Mom” and “Grandma” to many nieces and nephews, and a grandmother to all. She was always there for any of her grandchildren who wanted to come over to bake cookies or to play a game of cards. She followed the kids’ and grandchildren’s school, sports, and scouting activities for generations; and cared for her siblings during their terminal illnesses with cancer. Always a hard worker, Rose was a deeply caring person, loving her family and friends unconditionally whether or not they met the values and expectations she set. Rose is survived by four sons: Ken, Wayne and his wife Debbie, and Keith and his wife Bertha, all live at Antelope; and Randy and his wife Darla live in Bismarck, North Dakota. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Heidi, Bryan, Ted, Derek, and Roy Torgerson, Joy Batchler, and Hope and Mike Torgerson, and Susan Hansen; as well as by many great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
