Description	:	Rose Marie Sunleaf, age 84, formerly of Bellevue and Montezuma, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 17, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Memorials may be made to the Wilton Ambulance Service or the Bellevue Fire Department in her memory. Rose Marie DeGear was born December 2, 1937, in Bellevue, the daughter of Orion Glen and Alvina (Goetz) DeGear. She graduated from Bellevue High School with the Class of 1955. She attended the Finley Hospital School of Nursing and received her Registered Nurse Degree in 1958. She married Roger Wendell Sunleaf in 1965, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bellevue. She became employed as a Surgical Nurse at Mt. Siani Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, until she returned to Bellevue and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Bellevue Community Hospital. She and Roger later moved to Montezuma, where she continued her nursing career at the Swayer Nursing Home. Roger preceded her in death on September 14, 2003. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and the Humane Society of Iowa. She enjoyed traveling with Roger to the South and supported the restoration of the Destrehan and Jefferson Parish Plantations in Louisiana. She enjoyed reading about the South and was a Civil War history buff. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, playing golf and gardening. Surviving are several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roger, three sisters, Mary Clemens, Virginia Ackerman and Joan Roling, two brothers, Gerald DeGear and Donald DeGear and one nephew, William Clemens.
