Rose Mary was born April 29, 1918 in Des Moines to Mark McGrath and Anna Tiernan McGrath. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines in 1936. Read More	Rose Mary (McGrath) Spellman, 92, of Perry, (formerly of Woodward), IA, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at her home in Perry following a brief illness. Rose Mary was born April 29, 1918 in Des Moines to Mark McGrath and Anna Tiernan McGrath. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines in 1936. Rose Mary married Edward Spellman on July 16, 1942 at St. Augustin Catholic Church. For over 50 years Rose Mary was a homemaker and engaged in farming with Edward in central IA where they raised their nine children. She was a member of Assumption Parish in Granger and St. Patrick's in Perry. Rose Mary was known for her hospitality, generosity and hosting large family gatherings. She was an excellent cook. She was a world traveler and participated in Friendship Force International, a foreign guest exchange program. She enjoyed attending activities of the IA and Dallas County Bar Associations and the Knights of Columbus. Rose Mary had a warm sense of humor and smiling Irish eyes. Rose Mary is survived by eight children: Daniel (Sally) Spellman of Perry; Martin (Patricia) Spellman of Des Moines; Mary Anne (John) Gerstner of Elmhurst, IL; Patrick (Kassie) Spellman of Des Moines; Sheila Spellman (Bud Sanftner) of Des Moines; Michael (Maureen) Spellman of Des Moines; Thomas (JoAnne) Spellman of Woodward; and R. Susan (Stephen) Anderson of St. Charles, IL; 32 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her son Mark Spellman, her husband and her brother Albert Tiernan McGrath. Visitation begins after 4 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, IA, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19 at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, IA, followed by burial at Beaver Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the parish schools or foundations of Assumption, Granger or St. Patrick's, Perry and may be left at Murdoch funeral home in Perry.
