Rose Mary Forder was born May 8, 1920, along with her twin sister, Rena, at Winifred, Mont., to William D. and Cecilia L. (Torrence) Murphy. After their father died in a farm accident when Rose was 14, the family worked their farm and other jobs around the Winifred area. Rose graduated from Winifred High School and attended one year at Northern College in Havre. She then went to work for Ann and Hardee Phillips at Waltham, Mont., helping to care for Ann's father, Conn R. Forder, Sr. It was there that she met Conn R. Forder Jr., and they were married in Winifred on Jan. 12, 1941. They made their home on the ranch west of Waltham. To complete their family, in 1946 they adopted twin boys and in 1956 they adopted a girl. They were all raised on the ranch and educated in the Waltharn/Highwood area. After the sudden death of her husband, Conn, on May 7, 1975, Rose continued to live at the ranch until about a year later when she, still staying involved in the ranch but turning the daily operations over to her son moved into Great Falls. She discovered she loved to volunteer where she could help people. Over the years she volunteered at such places as the Red Cross, Great Falls Hospital, Peace Hospice, Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks, Charlie Russell Museum, and others. She became active in the First Congregational United Church of Christ where she was a part of many committees and activities. She also became involved in the Lewis & Clark Expedition/history events. Rose loved her bridge parties and the get-togethers with her friends and family. Rose was an avid traveler -- she traveled as far north to the North Pole and as far south to the Antarctic. Her other adventures included Hawaii, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, San Juan Islands, cruise through the Panama Canal, South America, Alaska, and Canada. She also enjoyed the many Elderhostel trips around the country. With each trip, she made wonderful new friends and treasured those memories. She loved rodeos and in the last couple years she attended them in her wheel chair. She liked to watch the National Finals Rodeo and attended the NFR several times in Las Vegas. She traveled many miles to attend and support her grandchildren in their activities. Her family and friends were important to her. She was such a vibrant, energetic, and caring person and she will be very much missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Bill and Joe Murphy, and a stepbrother, Monte Sargent. Complete obituary published in Great Falls Tribune on Apr. 11, 2006.
