Powers was born in 1879. On January 8, 1902 at Bridgewater, she was married to Francis M. Chafa. She was taken sick on Saturday and died on Wednesday. She was conscious to the end and before she died had given orders regarding the funeral service and burial. Chafa died at her home in Fontanelle on Wednesday, August 6, aged 23 years, 1 month and 18 days. Rozella M. Powers was born in 1879. On January 8, 1902 at Bridgewater, she was married to Francis M. Chafa. She was taken sick on Saturday and died on Wednesday. She was conscious to the end and before she died had given orders regarding the funeral service and burial. The deceased was a lady of more than ordinary ability, and was a general favorite with all with whom she was acquainted. She was a leading member of the Christian church and took an active interest and part in the progress of it and all its branch societies. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge of Fontanelle and took an active part in promoting the benevolence and fraternal spirit of this popular society. The taking away so suddenly of so bright a light in the community before the allotted time of life, is a great loss to the community as well as a sad bereavement to the sorrowing husband. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, on Thursday at 2 o'clock. Elder Rooks, of Bridgewater preached the funeral address from the 14th chapter of John. This passage of scripture was selected by the deceased before her death. The services were attended by a crowd of citizens, gathered for the purpose of paying their last respects to the departed. One of the largest funeral processions ever seen in Fontanelle, followed the remains to the cemetery, where the regular ritual of the Rebekah lodge was said, after which the remains were laid to rest.
