Description	:	In the 1911 Past and Present of Hardin County, Iowa, Lois Obviatt McMillen reported, "Miss Rice was afterwards married to James Mitchell, of Iowa Falls. She and her husband are both buried in the Iowa Falls cemetery." Roselyn and James R. Mitchell are not listed in the cemetery transcript, but the transcript reports unmarked graves with "no dates" in the Mitchell family lot. Roselyn Rice was an early schoolteacher in Alden in 1856 and the first schoolteacher in Ellis Township, Hardin County, in the summer of 1858. She is also listed among the first congregants of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Alden. Miss Rice married James R. Mitchell in 1862. Her husband preceded her in death, and she died sometime after 1905. Prior to her marriage, Miss Rice lived with Mrs. Olive Davis Wait Morse (mother of Mrs. Adelade Wait Button) in Alden in 1860. After Roselyn's marriage to James R. Mitchell, Mrs. Olive Morse lived in a house adjacent to Roselyn and James R. Mitchell and his mother Elizabeth in Hardin Township (1870 Census). In the 1850 census in Salem, Henry County, Iowa, Mrs. Olive Wait Morse appeared to have in the household a female "Rossitive Wait" matching the birthplace and year of Roselyn Rice, suggesting that Roselyn may have been a relative, possibly a daughter, whose surname was mistakenly given at the census-taking (as Mrs. Morse had another daughter from a previous marriage with the last name "Wait").
