Description	:	Rosena Abigail Giles was born 2 Nov 1875 in Princeton, Colusa County, Calif. She was the 11th, and last child, born to James K. Giles and Rosena Echstein Jones Giles. The family moved from Colusa County to Shasta County about 1879. Their ranch was located on Battle Creek, just west of today's Coleman Fish Hatchery. This is often generally referred to as the Ball Ferry area. She attended Shasta County schools, Mark Hopkins School of Art and the University of California. She was the 11th, and last child, born to James K. Giles and Rosena Echstein Jones Giles. The family moved from Colusa County to Shasta County about 1879. She attended Shasta County schools, Mark Hopkins School of Art and the University of California. She wrote many poems, and 3 books The Closed Road, Soil the Master; and Shasta County A History published by the Shasta Historical Society for California's centennial in 1950. She was very proud to be the great granddaughter of Alexander Hamilton Willard, who was with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. She worked as an enumerator in the 1930 Federal Census. She was a "gifted artist, active in many organizations, and a hard working farm woman. She had a low voice, a stately posture, and a very congenial smile. . . She was also well known for raising white turkeys" and collected patented All-American roses. "Rosena often chose to wear filmy, sheer graceful, often white, dresses when she attended meetings or was a speaker." Rosena never married and lived on the Giles Ranch with her brother George Ernest Giles and sisters Myra F. Giles and Mae Giles Fritz. Following the death of their brother George in 1943, the sisters sold the ranch and moved to Redding. Rosena died 11 April 1967 in Redding, Shasta County. She is buried in Parkville cemetery with her parents and 5 siblings: Mae F. Giles Fritz, George E. Giles, Myra E. Giles, Chauncey A. Giles, and Clara L. Giles Wilcox.
