Description	:	Rosetta Belle Oshel, age 75, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Friday, April 24, 2009 at Golden Living in Fredonia. She was born on October 14, 1921 in Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Layton) Wilson. Her Mother died when she was still an infant, and was raised by her maternal aunt and uncle, John and Rachel Moody. She was born on October 14, 1921 in Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Layton) Wilson. Her Mother died when she was still an infant, and was raised by her maternal aunt and uncle, John and Rachel Moody. Rosetta was united in marriage to Hubert (Red) Oshel on June 5th, 1937 in Fort Scott, Ks, and although she said she was 18, she was really 15. Rosetta always had extra kids at the house; some for a few hours, and at least one for a few months. While the kids were in school, she would work outside the home. She cooked at cafes, school, and hospitals. She would bake pies, bread, and other things she sold. At times she would do laundry and various other odd jobs to bring in extra money. She also baked goods for the children's bake sales. Although her husband worked pipeline and other jobs that kept them moving all over, she always managed to make it back to Kansas for the children to be born. Rosetta liked to make quilts and clothing for the family. If she had a pattern, she could follow it. She even had one for her children, 3 girls, 1 boy, 3 girls, 1 boy. After living in Wann Ok. With the younger children for 10 years, they moved to Cedar Vale, KS. She is survived by: Two sons: Wallace "Smokie" Oshel – Silbee, TX. Jessie James Oshel – Corpus Christi, TX. Five Daughters: Mary Squires – Fredonia, KS Patricia Lamb – Sedan, KS. Hellen Sallee – Weir, KS. Jo Ellen – Moline, KS Rebecca Braden – Gonzales, TX. 38 grandchildren (including step grandchildren), 51 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. Rosetta was preceded by her husband, parents, her aunt and uncle, a brother and a sister, her oldest child, 4 son-in-laws, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 grandchild, and a great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Cedar Vale Cemetery with Pastor Stan Rumbaugh officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to service time at the graveside. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, P.O. Box 247, 420 S. 20th St., Fredonia, Kansas.
