Visitation is at Miller Funeral Chapel, Selby, from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, and at the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Rosina Fiechtner, daughter of Katherina (Brosze) and Mathaus Fiechtner, was born Feb. 2, 1902, in the village of Hoffnungstal (Cherson) about 50 kilometers north of Odessa, Russia. On May 5, 1912, the family left for a new life in America arriving at Lehr, N.D. on May 18, 1912. They farmed here until 1918 when they moved to South Dakota, eventually settling on a farm seven miles southeast of Java, S.D. Rosina married Fred G. Bauman at the Hoffnungstal Lutheran Church northeast of Java on Oct. 3, 1920. They settled on their farm five miles east of Java, living there until 1950. They then built a new home in Java for their retirement years. Mr. Bauman died Nov. 20, 1988. Rosina continued living in Java until November 2003, when she moved to Aberdeen. Rosina was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Java and the Church's Women's group. She worked hard on the farm and later in Java where she always kept a large garden and grew many flowers for which she earned several awards. She was also a charter member of the local chapter of the Germans from Russia and helped organize the chapter "Die Deutsche Freiheit" in the Java-Eureka area. Rosina is survived by two sons, Clarence Bauman and his wife Marilyn of Bismarck, N.D., and Harold Bauman of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Rosina E. Stiegelmeier and her husband Wilmer of Selby and Hilda Schaefer of Lodi, Calif.; daughter-in-law Verna Bauman of the Bowdle Nursing Home; one sister, Amelia Flaig of San Diego, Calif.; special friend and caretaker Joan Carroll of Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bauman was preceded in death by her father on March 21, 1945, her mother on Dec. 10, 1933, her husband, one son (Martin), six brothers, three sisters, a daughter-in-law (Myrla) and a son-in-law (Otto). Honorary bearers will be Harry Bieber of Bismarck, N.D., Paul Moxness of Mankato, Minn., Jim Anderson of St. Paul, Minn., Adam Stiegelmeier of Dayton, Ohio and Levi Stiegelmeier of Selby. Casketbearers will be Rosina's grandsons - Paul Stiegelmeier, William Bauman, Steven Bauman, and Clyde Bauman of Bismarck, N.D., Mark Stiegelmeier of Selby, and Fred M. Bauman of Rapid City.
