(Davis) Zehner, beloved pioneer of Windfall who passed on to her reward at 5 o'clock this morning at her home. Mrs. Zehner had been in poor health a month or more and death was caused from several ailments incident to her advanced age. Rosina P. Davis was born October 12, 1842 and would have been 92 years of age if she had lived a few days longer. She was one of eleven children born to William and Nancy Davis of Van Wert county, Ohio. All the children lived to be grown, and all remained in the state of Ohio except Mrs. Zehner and a brother, William Davis. When a young lady, Rosina was united in marriage to Edmond Hook of Van Wert, and to them was born one daughter, Mary, deceased, who was the wife of Santford H. Weaver of Windfall. In 1865, some time after the death of her first husband, Mrs. Hook remarried, this time to John H. Zehner, the ceremony being performed in Chicago, and he too, preceded his wife to the grave, his death occurring March 8, 1901, in St. Augustine, Florida. To the latter union were born four children, three of whom survive, Mrs. Bertha Harris, widow of James Harris, former postmaster of Windfall; Mrs. Leah Summers, wife of George T. Summers; and John Otto Zehner of Windfall. Another son, Walter, died at the age of 31, Mrs. Zehner is also survived by two grandchildren. Mrs. Zehner had been a Tipton county resident since 1866, coming to Windfall with her husband at that time when they engaged in the hotel business, which was located where the Windfall Lumber yard office now stands. Mrs. Zehner later took up the mercantile business and continued along this line of work until his death. The Windfall Dry Good's company operated by Mrs. Harris is the continuation of this venture. Mrs. Zehner was a Christian woman, being a member of the United Brethren church since she was a small girl. She was also active in the Rebecca lodge at Windfall whenever her health would permit although her health was not always of the best, she maintained her cheery spirit and was never one to complain of her feelings. She stood for the highest type of Christian womanhood and was loved and honored by all who knew her. Her passing will leave an empty spot In that community which can not be filled.
