Description	:	Ross Edwin Eaton, 83, of Rock Island, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 at Highline Care Center. He was born May 18, 1918 in Oakley, KS to Joe and Pearl (Brothers) Eaton. At a young age, his mother passed away. His father married Frederica Holdforth. Ross went to school in Grinnell, KS for 2 years. He then moved to Russell Springs, KS. At a young age, his mother passed away. His father married Frederica Holdforth. Ross went to school in Grinnell, KS for 2 years. He then moved to Russell Springs, KS. In 1929, he moved to Cheyenne Wells, CO. until moving to Washington State in 1936. Ross helped his father on the dairy farm outside Mount Vernon. On March 29, 1938, he married Ruth Louise Butterfield in Mount Vernon. He moved his family to Columbia River Siding in 1939. During that same year, he began working for the Great Northern Railway. He moved his family to Rock Island in 1959, where he was mayor for several years. He also worked in the Community Development. He was the first to turn the shovel of dirt for the first golf course in Rock Island. He retired from the railroad in 1979. Ross will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, at home; his three daughters, Doris Chester, Tacoma, Rose Fincher, East Wenatchee and Dora Mabbott of Ephrata; one son, Ed Eaton, Wenatchee; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne Eaton, Mount Vernon, Ray Eaton, Sedro Woolley, Earl Eaton, Murray, UT and Ralph Eaton of Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and three sisters. (Evanna B Eaton Hutchinson 1934-2000) Funeral Services will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2002 at 10:30 with the Rev. Doyle Goldy officiating. Concluding Services and interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday until 8 p.m. Those who wish may make memorials to a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
