Read More	Forney, Ross 1910-1975 ~ WW II VETERAN ~ ---- Ross Nicholl Forney, 64, was born April 25, 1910 to Wm C. and Minnie Forney and died January 29, 1975 at Memorial City Hospital in Houston, Texas after a lingering illness. Ross was raised in Corwin Township in Ida County where he attended rural school, later graduating from the Ida Grove High School. He was a member of the Church of God, later transferring his membership to the Methodist Church. He also was a member of Kane Lodge #377, A.F. & A.M. in Ida Grove and Maple Chapter #337 Order of the Eastern Star. Ross was very interested in athletics, playing football in high school as well as when attending college at Coe for three years. His father passed away in 1932, therefore he came home from college and farmed the home place that was located 3 miles southwest of Ida Grove until January 1, 1937 when he was appointed Deputy Sheriff under the Lawrence W. Kuhl administration which was concluded January, 1943. He then worked at the A. & P. Creamery until April, 1945, when he was drafted into the service. He was discharged March, 1946. After returning to civilian life he continued at the Creamery, later working for Zimmer Plumbing of Ida Grove and Wilhelm Plumbing in Storm Lake. In 1961 he began working as a plumber at the Mental Health Institute at Cherokee until he was compelled to retire due to his health. Ross was married to Ruth Clapsaddle on April 26, 1938. To this union were born a son, Lee, and a daughter who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife; son, Lee; daughter-in-law, Sue, grandchildren, Juanita Sue and Burton Ross of Houston, Texas; a brother Arlo of Ida Grove; and many other relatives. Services under the direction of Hughes-Nelson Funeral Home, were held from the Storm Lake Methodist Church on Tuesday, Febrary 4 with interment in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lloyd Sacguety, Walter Zimmer, Clifford Rauch, Everett Wilcutt, Harold Rodenbaugh and Bud McCullough.
