ROSS LANTOW'S WOUND IS FATAL Corporal Shot at Truax Field Dies Before Parents Arrive. While his parents and two sisters were on route to his bedside, Corp. Ross Lantow, 21, Defiance died Thursday in the hospital at Truax Field, Madison Wis. of a gunshot wound through the abdomen, according to a telegram received here late in the afternoon. The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lantow, Union street, a sister, Miss Erma Lantow and a half sister, Mrs. Robert Meyer left shortly after noon Thursday upon receipt of telegram stating that his condition was serious. The second telegram, announcing his death, came at a time that the parents could not be intercepted. No details of how the accident occurred had been received today but the message indicated that the shooting occurred at the gunnery school of Truax Field. The parents and sisters will arrive in Defiance with the body this evening according to a telegram received from them this afternoon. The body will be at the Mansfield Funeral Home and arrangements for the funeral will be made after the family returns. Besides the parents, the sister and a half sister, he leaves two half brothers, Dennis Lower of near Toledo and Henry Lantow of Defiance and a sister Jean Lantow at home. A letter written by Ross last Wednesday- the day before the accident- was received at the Lantow home this morning informing them that he had been promoted to the rank of corporal. Another communication was received by mail also this morning. It was from the commanding officer at the camp and reiterated the statement that Ross died of an accidental gunshot would. It gave no other particulars.
