Description	:	Ross Wilson Head, Sr., at the age of 88, passed away from this life while at home early Monday morning, October 22. The life of Mr. Head will be lovingly remembered in a service to be Thursday evening, October 25, at 7 pm at Tyndall Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Smith and the Rev. Ronnie Wise will officiate. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service at the funeral home, and at other times, the family will be at the residence. Burial will be private. The son of the late Burke and Cora Smith Head, he was raised in the Seven Springs/Pricetown area of southern Wayne County. A life-long farmer, cattleman, and horse rancher, it was over 55 years ago that he and his wife began their own horse sales and tack shop business which became widely known in several states. This business, Ross Head Stables and Tack Shop, had his daily presence until mid-August of 2018, and is still operated by son, Ross Head, Jr. and grandson, Ross Wilson Head III. Dating back to when he was a lad, he held a steadfast fascination with mules, horses, and cows which led to his life’s dream of having possession of many breeds of each. Mr. Head, known by family and close friends as “The Horseman” and “The Original Horseman” was baptized at and attended Seven Springs United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Wayne County Livestock Development Association and had been a sponsor of the Wayne County Regional Fair with exhibits and animal showings for over 50 years. He was a member of the North Carolina Cattleman’s Association, the American Brahman Breeders Assoc., and was a former member of the American Quarter Horse Association. A shy and rather private person, he felt no more at ease than with his four-legged pals, whether they be horses, cattle, mules, cats, or dogs. He was a hard-working and disciplined person who was devoted to his beloved wife, Sara, for over 68 years, and together, they led loving and supportive lives with solid moral and ethical values which they dutifully imparted to his children and grandchildren. He had known farm life back when farmers tended their land with mules, and when modern tractor and equipment seemed to replace mules and hand-held plows, he continued to use mules as a testament to his being the ultimate cowboy. Indeed, he was a steward of God’s earth and was a joyful witness to its natural beauty, with all creatures great and small being dear to his humble heart. Dubbed a true southern gentleman by many, he held charm and a fierce independence, and being the likeable and loveable man that he was, he was always ready for hugs and kisses from any nice looking lady, whether they be family or friend. Mr. Head is survived by his wife, Sara Kornegay Head; five children, Janice Selena Head Kornegay and husband, Don Kornegay, Jr. of the Scott’s Store area, Mount Olive, Ross Wilson Head, Jr. and wife, Sandra Sutton Head, of Williams Crossroads, Mount Olive, Karen Joy Head Aycock and companion, Allen Baker, of the Seven Springs area, Vicky Ann Head Rose of Mount Olive, and Deborah Cora Head Ewald and husband, Ron Ewald of Front Royal, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, Rhonda Jo Aycock, Crystal Aycock Bowne, William Dustin Evans, Donald Ross Evans, Ashley Nicole Head Conder, Amber Elaine Head Kelly, John Mitchell Kornegay, Cody Mills Rose, Ross Wilson Head III, Chase Adam Kornegay and Cora Levay Head Ellsworth; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Head Sutton and husband, Brent Sutton of Pittsboro, Beth Head Jackson of Mount Olive, and Brenda Head Killette of LaGrange and friend, Durwood Whitman, also of LaGrange; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous friends in various horse-riding circles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Justin Frank and Kayla Evans; a brother, Woodley Kent Head whom he raised as a son; and three sisters, Lois Head Hardy, Lorene Head Sutton, and Blanche Head McKenzie. As his existence with us has come to a close, he now rides away in the setting sun; happier times await him, earth’s work is over; rest with the Lord is won. In lieu of flowers, it is befitting that memorial gifts be made to Wayne County Livestock Development Association, PO Box 1100, Goldsboro, NC 27533, or Seven Springs United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Woodard Jackson, 2330 Indian Springs Road, Dudley, NC 28333.
