She was the youngest daughter of George and Sarah Smith. Her father was a Civil War veteran. She was the youngest daughter of George and Sarah Smith. Her father was a Civil War veteran. When she was one year of age the family moved to the Smith homestead in Warren county, Ia., where she lived 62 years on the same farm. In the year 1913, on September 10, she was married at the Methodist parsonage in New Virginia, Iowa, to Jess Monroe Neal who preceded her in death May 25, 1930. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Wanda Work of Indianola, Iowa and Warnie B. Neal of Woodburn, Iowa; one son-in-law Leota Neal, a little granddaughter Nova Work, who with her immediate family of brothers and sisters mourn their loss are Mrs. Margaret Jane Peck of Nebraska, L. A. Smith of northern Iowa, James L. Smith of Chariton, Ira Smith of North Dakota, Edd Smith of Montana, Mrs. Era Hardman of California, Mrs. Vorinda Haines of Northwood, Iowa, Mrs. Francis Messenger of New Virginia, and a host of relatives and friends. Three brothers preceded her in death, John, George and William Smith. In the death of this mother, the entire neighborhood is saddened in the loss of this good woman. She attended to her home duties until her last illness. She was a true wife and a loving mother. She chose Jesus Christ as her pilot at the age of 12 years, and kept faith with him all through life. Short funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wanda Work, 701 D street, Indianola at 1 p.m. Another service was held at the Liberty M.E. church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. F. C. McCallon was in charge of both services. Interment in Liberty cemetery.
