Description	:	Rowena Ann Bowen, 83, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, January 23, 2017, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center, Shell Rock, Iowa. Rowena, the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle (Larson) Peterson was born on February 12, 1933, in her parent's home near Corning, Adams County Iowa. Read More	Rowena Ann Bowen, 83, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, January 23, 2017, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center, Shell Rock, Iowa. Rowena, the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle (Larson) Peterson was born on February 12, 1933, in her parent's home near Corning, Adams County Iowa. She was baptized August 23, 1933, at Strand Lutheran Church with confirmation March 21, 1948, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Rockwell, Iowa. Rowena attended rural schools in Adams County and after 1939, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. In 1951, she graduated from Rockwell High School and later Hamilton School of Business, Mason City, Iowa. On March 26, 1955, she married U.S. Marine Sgt. Chester Bowen, later they divorced. During his twenty-year career in the marines they lived in Quantico, Virginia, Vista, California and Oahu, Hawaii. He was deployed during Lebanon and Korean Conflicts and served two tours in Vietnam. As an accountant she was employed in Vista and Escondido, California, with Atkins, SubSea and other companies. In 2007, she returned to Iowa to live in Waverly where she became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Bowman Circle. Rowena was also a member of Bremer County Genealogical Society and Sons of Norway's Solglmit Lodge. Rowena is survived by: two sons, Russell Bowen of Oceanside, California, and Bruce Bowen of Fairbanks, Alaska; three grandchildren, Matthew (April) Bowen, Lindsay (Josh) Spivey, and Morgan Bowen; one great grandson, Ronan Spivey; two brothers, Roger Peterson of Swaledale, Iowa, and Lon (Kendra) Peterson of Rockwell, Iowa; one sister, Deloris Laube of Waverly, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law, Wanda Bowen; her parents; two brothers, Merle and Wesley Peterson; a sister, Della Smith; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a nephew. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Arthur Bergren officiating. Burial will follow at Rockwell Cemetery in Rockwell, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
