Hager, on Saturday, Oct. 25, although not wholly unexpected, brought with it the sense of sudden shock that always comes with the loss of long familiar faces. Forty-three years ago, Mr. Hagar brought to this pleasant, spacious home his happy, youthful bride, and here an entered married life was spent. Failing health for the past year or so, and even longer, has kept her more closely confined at home, but until the very last days, her warm, neighborly instincts and vital interest in friends, was evident even in the midst of suffering. Mrs. Hager was a home lover, a home maker, and even if she had been a score of years younger, her interest would always have been centered there, rather than in the wider arena of life. A woman of strong feeling and deep abiding affection for her loved ones. This blessed gift is but a memory with them now, but in the consoling words spoken by Reb. F.R. Enslin at the services on Monday each sorrowing heart can rest in the light and hope of the mother love, not lost but gone before. Mrs. Hager was the eldest daughter of Josiah and Sophrona Flagg Byam of Chelmsford. She is survived by husband and three sons, Frank J. of Ironwood, Mich., John H. of Gardner and Leslie A., who for the present is at home. There is also one surviving borther, John Byam of Chelmsford, and one sister, Mrs. Geo. Holton of Fitchburg. The beautiful arrangements of flowers at the funeral showed the loving touch of friends. A pillow with the fond word, "Mother," was placed at the head of the casket. A pillow of beautiful violets and a fine floral offering from members of the L.W.C. being the most noticeable. "Lead kindly light," and "Nearer my god to thee" were given by the choir. Mrs. Hager has always been closely identified with the interest of the Baptist church, and until failing health forbid, was an active worker in church affairs and in the Sunday school. The last sickness, which proved fatal, was fatty degeneration of the heart. Her age was 66 yrs. 1 mon. 22 days. (A copy of the above obituary can be found on the cemetery website. It was published in 1902, I believe in the Littleton paper, however, it does not say on it.)
