Roxanna Liggett was born November 20, 1927 in Sewal, Iowa to Abe and Katie (Calif) Liggett. She grew up with five sisters and three brothers. The family lived in Sewal, Harvard, and Allerton. She graduated from Allerton High School in 1945 and went on to work at JC Penney’s in Des Moines and also taught at Log Chain School. Roxanna met Verl Jesse Petty at a dance in Allerton and they were united in marriage on June 12, 1948. To this union, two children were born: Daryl Keith (Lynne) and Barbara Jo (Jeffrey) Stiles. Roxanna and Verl lived and farmed near Caleb Creek north of Lineville. In 1988 they moved to Lineville, continuing to farm until Verl passed in 2002. Roxanna also worked as a cook at the Lineville, School and later helped in the office for Karl McKeeman D.V.M. Roxanna continued to live in Lineville until declining health required her to move to Corydon Specialty Care. They were members of the Lineville United Methodist Church and were active supporters of 4-H when their children were teens. Roxanna and Verl played cards with many friends and neighbors over the years. They also enjoyed dancing at the many Jam Sessions around the area as well as traveling with family and friends! Roxanna was fortunate to travel to and visit a granddaughter in Alaska and a grandson in France. She was also a member of several clubs over the years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ray and Guy and sisters, Ethel Niday and Twila Palmer. Roxanna is survived and will be missed by her children, Daryl (Lynne) Grinnell, IA and Baraba (Jeffrey) Humeston, IA; grandchildren, Joey (Michael) Morrison, Earlham, IA, Drew (Sam) Stiles, Des Moines, IA, Mathew (Katie) Petty, Long Tree, CO, Laura Wickham, Montezuma, IA, Jessica Petty, Urbandale, IA, Katie (Cody) DeWitt, New Sharon, IA; great grandchildren, Brody, Cooper, and Gunnar Morrison, Evan and Eli Petty, Tayler, Alison, and Hadley Wickham, Sawyer and Grayson DeWitt; brother, Dwight (Mary Ann) Liggett: sisters, Velma Gibbs, Opal Longley, Coy (Bill) Davis and several nieces and nephews.
