Roy Chappel, and Lee Ackley, the latter, a brother of Earl's were eating in the dining room when the shell plowed through the wall, sending splinters into the head of Lee, the bullet entering the left side of Chappel's face. The splinters severed the templar artery of Lee Ackley. Last reports were that his condition was not serious. Funeral services were held Monday at Gardner's Funeral Home at 2 p.m. for Roy Chappel. Roy Allen Chappel was born on February 23, 1931. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Chappel, one sister, Doris Evelyn, and four brothers, Eugene Frances, Kenneth Lee, Maurice Alvin and Walter Gordon Jr. Fifty students from Columbia High School were excused from classes to attend the service. Burial services were held on Wednesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
