Also was a fiddle player in his younger years, and had a twin brother named Ray. Also loved growing a huge garden, us boys sure loved eating out of the garden. Date 10-7-2012 written by Lloyd Williams son of Roy Allen Williams Sr. I am 60 years old, with failing health, I want to write about my father, to get a sorrow off my chest. My father would have been 110 years old today, and I have carried a sorrow inside me for 34 years. My father served in the U.S. Navy from 1922 - 1926, and then in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1944. He was so proud of his service to his country, and talked about it most of his life. He had the names of 17 different countries tattooed on his inner right arm, from when he served in the Navy, and Army. He always told us brothers that all he wanted when he passed on, was to have a military service. My sorrow is that he never got what he wanted. We had it all set up for a military service, but the day of his burial in 1978, the funeral director told us the service had changed. The boy from the high school that was to play the taps, didn't feel like it because a class mate had been in a auto accident. Also that it was going to be to much trouble for the National Guard Army, (which is just next to the Cemetery), to break out the guns, to do the service. We were all heart broke, at the moment, but it was a little to late to do anything. I am so sorry dad you didn't get the service you wanted. You were Honorably Discharged from the Navy and Army both, but dishonorably laid to rest. Love your sons Lloyd, Don, & Robert. About his Family: Winfield Courier--Paper Rock,Township--1901 Biographical Records [July 1870] page 206-- John W. Williams, was a native of the state of New York, and his wife was born in Fulton County, Illinois. They were married in Michigan, where they resided until October, 1850, when they moved to Fulton County, Illinois. In 1855, they located in Kansas, where Mr. Williams engaged in farming. He was a blacksmith by trade and followed that occupation many years. He died June 1, 1885, and his widow died at Rock, in March, 1898. They reared the following children: George H.; Stephen D., who died in Douglass, Kansas, in 1894; Justus F., who was a stock raiser, and resided in Wyoming; John F., who was a farmer and stock breeder, and resided in Osage County, Kansas; Christopher V., who was a harness maker, and lived in Osage County, Kansas; Ella J., deceased, who was the wife of Peter Taylor; Ida E., who was the wife of T. Stephens, of Lawrence, Kansas; Abraham L., who was a stone mason; Limon P., who resided near Rock, Kansas, and was a gardener; Arthur W., who was a farmer in Kansas; and Floyd E., who was a farmer of Lyon County, Kansas.
