Description	:	Roy B. Shogren was born October 25, 1898 in Clay County, near Alsen, SD to parents Charles and Suzanna (Backlin) Shogren and entered into death on January 1, 1997 at the Centerville Good Samaritan Center at the age of 98 years, two months and six days. He received his early education in the Newdale rural school, and later worked and farmed with his brothers. Roy married Helen Larsen in 1927. Shogren was born October 25, 1898 in Clay County, near Alsen, SD to parents Charles and Suzanna (Backlin) Shogren and entered into death on January 1, 1997 at the Centerville Good Samaritan Center at the age of 98 years, two months and six days. He received his early education in the Newdale rural school, and later worked and farmed with his brothers. Roy married Helen Larsen in 1927. The couple lived in Alsen, Beresford, Lyons, NE and Yankton while Roy worked as a mechanic. In 1942 they moved to the Centerville area when Roy returned to farming. In 1954 he purchased the J.I. Case dealership in Centerville. After his wife's death in 1961, Roy sold the implement business and set out on a new venture, buying an upholstery shop in Sioux Falls. He moved this business to Centerville in 1975. Roy made a success of the upholstery business and especially enjoyed re-upholstering antique furniture and antique car interiors. He married Naomi Carlson and she died in 1973. Roy was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. In 1989, at the age of 91, Roy retired, and in 1991 he became a resident of the Centerville Good Samaritan Center. Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by his son Duane in 1995; three brothers and three sisters. Among those who survive and who grate-fully shared his life are his two daughters Gloria and her husband James Adamson of Centerville and Nona Marshall of Brookings; his daughter-in-law Shelby Shogren of Beloit, WI; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
