Read More	One of 6 brothers, Roy was born on March 3, 1912 in a farmhouse near Duncan, Nebraska. He met his beloved wife, Catherine Agnew, in college. They have been married for almost 73 years. Family members include son Dale and his wife Virginia; grandson Greg and his wife Lisa; grandson Jeff and his wife Becky and their children Brad, Adam, Eric, and Anna. Roy's life was characterized by happiness and love of people through family, church, and professional associations. With son, Dale, and later with grandsons, Greg and Jeff, they made numerous trips to historical sights, picnicked and hiked on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and fished in the New River. The highlight of their travels was a trip through the Western United States, Canadian Rockies, and spending time with many of the Blaser relatives in Nebraska. As Roy moved around the country to meet new challenges and opportunities, his family associated and became active with various Presbyterian churches. Roy was a deacon both at the First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick, NJ and in Gainesville, FL. Additionally, he served numerous leadership roles at the First Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg, VA. Upon moving to the Well Spring Retirement Community in Greensboro, NC nearly 10 years ago to be closer to family, he and Catherine became active members of Fellowship Presbyterian Church. As long as he was able, Roy tended the Rose Garden at the church with the help of his son, Dale. Roy will be affectionately remembered as a purveyor of warm hugs and beautiful roses to anyone within arms length! Roy served his profession with dedication. After earning his BS from the University of Nebraska, his MS from Rutgers University, and his Ph.D. from NC State University, he researched plants and soils to grow better pastures. This research helped to develop forage feeding systems for the efficient production of meat and milk. This important work was sponsored at various times by the University of Florida, Cornell University, and Virginia Tech. In addition to being a professor, Roy was a consultant for the Rockefeller Foundation and traveled throughout the world, concentrating in South America, to help teach farmers to feed their people more efficiently. He wrote over 250 professional journal articles and textbook chapters. At Virginia Tech, Roy directed the thesis research of 51 students that graduated with a MS and/or a Ph.D. degree. By recommendation from colleagues, Roy was elected President of the American Society of Agronomy, Fellows of the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America. The University of Nebraska honored him with a Doctor of Science degree and Virginia Tech, where he taught and researched for 31 years, conferred the title of University Distinguished Professor.
