He was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Fremont and was raised in Ames. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1948. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1954 with a degree in agriculture. He married Marilyn Legband on April 3, 1955, in Snyder. He farmed his entire adult life. He was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Fremont and was raised in Ames. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1948. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1954 with a degree in agriculture. He married Marilyn Legband on April 3, 1955, in Snyder. He farmed his entire adult life. He was a past president of the Ames school board and an elder of his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Steven (and wife, JoAnna) Hansen of Cedar Bluffs and Kirk (and wife, Theda) Hansen of North Bend; two daughters, Nancy Walling of Omaha and Patti (Mrs. John) Thomason of Plattsmouth; a brother, Gene (and wife, Cora) Hansen of Fremont; a sister, Mona Nelson of Las Vegas; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Timothy Gierke officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. A memorial has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
