Shemwell performed the ceremony. Roy E. Bethards. Monmouth, Ill., March 14—(Argus News Service)—Roy E. Bethards, 58, of 613 East First avenue, Monmouth, died at 7:25 o'clock last night in his home. He had been in failing , health nine months and on Feb. 3, suffered a stroke in a Kirksville, Mo., hospital. Born Oct. 8, 1883, in Shelbyville, Mo., he came to Monmouth five years ago. He was a carpenter and cement worker by trade and had worked in Missouri, Illinois and South Dakota. On March 10, 1910, he married Miss Bertha A. Holliday. She survives as do two daughters, Helen and Hazel, both at home; a son, James Welson Bethards, a student at Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, Roy C. Bethards of Hannibal, Mo., and Omer Bethards of Shelbyville, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Elva Martin of Kahoka, Mo. An infant son, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. The body was removed to the Lugg mortuary. Short services will be held at the home tonight and the funeral party will go by train to Shelbyville where services and burial will be held.
