Description	:	Roy Ernest Brown, resident of Redmond, OR for 15 years, peacefully passed away in his apartment at Stone Lodge on November 29, 2013. He was 89 years old. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those that knew him. He was born in 1924 in a tent along the Yakima R. near Ellensburg, WA. They moved to Seattle, WA.... Read More	Roy Ernest Brown, resident of Redmond, OR for 15 years, peacefully passed away in his apartment at Stone Lodge on November 29, 2013. He was 89 years old. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those that knew him. He was born in 1924 in a tent along the Yakima R. near Ellensburg, WA. He and his younger brother helped with the many farm chores, growing up during the depression. While attending 1 year at Cambridge High School, he met and married Lois Jones in 1942. They moved to Seattle, WA. Roy immediately found work; eventually in the shipyards. In 1943 he signed up for the Navy and went to Faraguat, ID for boot camp and Corpsman school. He was sent to Sun Valley, ID for a few months and eventually on to Okinawa in 1945, where he served until the end the War. With Lois & 2 daughters at his side, he earned a B.S. degree at the College of Idaho. He considered going on to Medical School, but they were tired of surviving on a small income, so he took a teaching job at Council High School where he taught Science & Math, coached various sports, and became Principal. After 5 years, the family moved to Bakersfield, CA; then on to Hayward, CA. He taught at Tennyson High 26 years, until his retirement in 1986. He worked in Real Estate for a few years while enjoying golf in his spare time. Through a span of 9 years he and Lois were blessed with 5 grandchildren. In 1997 Roy & Lois moved to Redmond, OR. Roy was recognized many times for his numerous volunteer services, while he continued to enjoy playing golf. People who knew Roy loved his quick wit and sense of humor. He always looked for the positive and good in people. He is survived by 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. The family will have a private memorial gathering later. His ashes will be placed in Ellensburg, WA next to his wife and his Mother.
