Funeral services for Gene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Pastor Richard Marsceau will officiate the services. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery. Roy Eugene Finley was born on March 13, 1937, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Roy E. and Claudia (Beatrice) Finley. On February 13, 1959, Gene was united in marriage to Janis Conner in Greentop, MO. Gene was employed with Hacap, the University of Iowa and several other companies. He was a plumber, electrician, carpenter, mechanic and HVAC specialist. He proudly served his country in the National Guard for many years. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 2001. Gene enjoyed riding motorcycles, repairing cars, tinkering with things, doing crosswords and fixing computers. Gene will be deeply missed by his wife, Janis of Cedar Rapids; his children, Debbie Lockhart and her husband Paul of Texas, Vickie Jones of Texas, Craig Edmonds of Minnesota, Steven Finley and his wife Jonette of Cedar Rapids and Robert Finley and his wife Lee Ann of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; his siblings; Donna Shacklett and her husband Chuck of Missouri, Linda Sapp of Waterloo, Louise Thomas and her husband Jim of Missouri, Jerry Finley of Lone Tree, Pat Detweiller, Paul Burgess and his wife Mary and Arnie Burgess all of Iowa City; and his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Funk of Lone Tree. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Finley Sr.; his mother, Claudia Beatrice Finley; his step-mother, Lillian "Bob" Finley; his brother, Robert; and three sisters in infancy.
