Read More	Roy Fred Holzinger October 31, 1920–March 17, 2013 Roy Fred Holzinger, 92, of Wyoming died peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2013 surrounded by his family in his home, after experiencing an increasingly difficult fight with dementia and complications from heart failure. Friends called from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Funeral services were held on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming with Amy Waelshli officiating. Burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery with military honors. Roy was born on October 31, 1920, on a farm west of Wyoming, the son of Louie and Viola (Huggans) Holzinger and was raised on Jones County farms and graduated from the Oxford Junction Community School, May 1938. Following graduation with encouragement from his father and Uncle Raymond Huggans, Roy opened an auto and truck repair garage on Main Street, Wyoming. Soon thereafter Roy attended an advanced auto repair school in Kansas City, Missouri. On June 7, 1942 Roy and Delores Topping were united in marriage. On January 15, 1943 Roy entered the Army Air Force and because of his previous mechanical experience was trained as an airframe and power plant instructor on the B-29 and B-32. Roy was honorably discharged in February of 1946 and returned to auto mechanics for a short time in Olin before moving to Clarence to work the Ford dealership. After experiencing lung issues Roy left auto mechanics and accepted a job with Herzberger Hardware in Wyoming delivering Skelgas and repairing anything that ran on LP. The family moved to Wyoming in late 1958. During 1962 Roy was hired by Marion Skelgas to manage a new branch store, Anamosa Skelgas. Eventually a new LP bulk plant and store was built on the old Dubuque Road. In succeeding years anhydrous, liquid fertilizer and home heating and appliances were added. Roy was well known for his service and ability to repair anything that ran on LP gas. Roy loved his work and customers so much that he worked well into his late 70s before fully retiring. Roy was a very active lifelong member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, serving many years in various capacities on the church council, Lutheran Brotherhood, and as a superintendent of the Sunday school. He also volunteered many hours for the repair and maintenance of the church building and grounds. Roy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his entire family for the help, guidance, and love he provided during his lifetime for his wife, Delores of 70 years, his two children Gary and Linda, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, extended family and dear friends. Roy is survived by his wife Delores, son Gary (Loretta) Holzinger, Stone City, daughter Linda (Robert) Mingst, Clarence, grandchildren; Mike (Jeannette) Holsinger, Marion, Kim (Brad) Cairns, Cedar Rapids, Julie (Chris) Frimml, Atkins, Erica (Jeff) Imholz, Powell, Ohio, Jason Mingst, Des Moines. Great grandchildren; Ryan, Ashley, Miranda, Derek, Emmy and Josie. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruth Colony, and a nephew Mark Colony.
