Born Sept. 25, 1934, at Accident, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary (Brown) Jenkins . He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dawn (Taylor) Jenkins , on May 13, 2006, after 49 years of marriage. Garland was baptized on April 28, 1935, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, by the late Rev. George Kunkle and confirmed as a teenager by the late Rev. Johns. He attended Gospel Center, Markleysburg, Pa. He worked as a woodsman for many years for the Frantz Family and Red Rock Enterprises. Garland retired after 27 ½ years working for the Maryland Highway Administration and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1957-1959. He is survived by his second wife, Myrtle (Friend) Hanft Jenkins ; two daughters, Maureen Tomberlin, Forest City, N.C., Cinda Yvonne Moss, Rutherfordton, N.C.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-children, Carroll Hanft, Addison, Pa., Dorothy Needer, Timonium, Juanita Higson, Cumberland, Elizabeth Beatty, Youngsville, N.C., Melrose Short, Decatur, Texas; 13 step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren and one sister, Edna McClintock, Grantsville. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Martin Stewart officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Rt. 219, Accident. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Gospel Center, Markleysburg.
