Born April 24, 1921 in Wayne County, Ind., to Oscar D. and Josie Moore Werking, he had lived all of his life in Wayne County. A World War II Army-Airforce Veteran, he served as a flight instructor. He was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of the Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post, Hagerstown. Roy was active in the Republican Party for 40 years, a member of county council for 10 years, a county commissioner for eight years and was the recipient of The Sagamore of the Wabash. Survivors include his wife, Martha Clark Werking, whom he married Nov. 23, 1991; one daughter, Sharon Terhune and husband Steve, Modoc; one son, Randy Werking, Michigan City, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Linda Lee and husband Phil, Richmond; one grandson, Jim Culberson, Hagerstown; one step grandson, Zachary Culberson, Hagerstown; one brother, Mark Werking and wife Mary, Hagerstown; one niece, Shirley Root, Hagerstown; and one nephew, Roger Werking, Churchton, Md. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond, with Rev. Jim Miller and Rev. Clyde Hylton officiating.
