Description	:	Roy Martin McConnell, 72 years old, passed away peacefully in his beloved home on Badger Mountain on February 24, 2008. He was surrounded by his wife and numerous family members at the time of his passing. Roy lost his short lived battle with lung cancer. He was born April 27, 1935 in Le Roy, IL. Read More	Roy Martin McConnell, 72 years old, passed away peacefully in his beloved home on Badger Mountain on February 24, 2008. He was surrounded by his wife and numerous family members at the time of his passing. Roy lost his short lived battle with lung cancer. He was born April 27, 1935 in Le Roy, IL. Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne Division as a member of the honor guard. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he served in the Illinois National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. Roy and family moved from Illinois to Leavenworth, WA in 1965. He was employed by the city and later, owned a restaurant. Roy also lived in Western Washington for a period of his life, prior to settling on Badger Mountain. He was a long haul truck driver for many years and spent the remaining years of his active employment as a logger. He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying fishing and hunting and his dogs. He was a great story teller and his tales will be remembered by all. He was a dedicated family man and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and his first wife, Frankie. He is survived by his wife of the home, Marjorie; sons, Roy Martin, Jr. and Jack of Badger Mountain and David of Ellensburg; daughters, Kathy Williams of Ketchikan, AK, Carol Weyrick of Reno, NV and Jody (Steve) Pedersen of Duvall, WA; son, Jack (Teresa) McCarver of Wenatchee; and daughter, Carole (Chris) Shedd of Waterville. Roy leaves 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A very special thank you for all of the compassionate care givers who provided assistance through hospice. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be given to the American Cancer Society. Jones & Jones ~ Betts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
