Mr. Derrick died Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in Morehead City, N.C., where he had been a resident for the last two years. In 1954, he married Trannie Rauch Snelgrove and they enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage until her death in 2003. He and Trannie were active in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, especially in the Young At Heart Club for senior adults. Mr. Derrick was the last of eight boys and four girls born to Charles and Eva Derrick. He was born near Chapin, S.C., in the area now covered by the waters of Lake Murray. His family moved to the St. Andrews community when he was a teenager and he was a graduate of Columbia High School. He and his brothers ran a small store on Broad River Road for many years. Mr. Derrick also farmed and engaged in several small businesses until he went to work at Hiller Hardware Store, where he worked until retirement. Mr. Derrick is survived by a stepdaughter, Judy (Jim) Rivers; a grandson, Jimmy (Mona) Rivers; three great-grandchildren, Katie, Whitney and Derek Rivers; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Julie Rivers.
