Read More	Obituary from the Council Grove Republican: Royalyn Jean Sharp, 74, longtime resident of the Lutheran Home in Herington, died Saturday, March 13, 2004. She was born April 12, 1929, in Council Grove, daughter of Roy J. and Fern F. Cress Sharp. When she was 5 years old, her father died soon after she had a serious illness with a high fever which affected part of her mind. As a young girl, she liked to go on family picnics and enjoyed life through the activities of her sisters and their families. She loved to sing and play the piano, never had lessons but did well at playing the molody of songs by ear. She also enjoyed doing embroidery work and made quilts for each niece and nephew. After her sisters were married and had homes of their own, Royalyn and her mother became constant companions. They were members of the Council Grove United Methodist Church and were active in it. After the death of her mother in 1969, she moved to the Herington Lutheran Home where she lived 35 years. She liked to go for walks, knew many people in Council Grove, liked to stop and visit with them, and she continued that after her move to Herington. Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters: Helen Gutsch, June Warren and Virginia Malia. Survivors include two sisters: Mary E. Lee, Dwight; and Joyce S. Swim Derby, and a number of nieces and nephews including Neva Joyce Fischer, who in recent years has been her guardin. Inurement services will be Monday, March 22, at 11 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery, Council Grove. Memorial serivces at the Lutheran Home in Herington will be that afternoon at 2 o'clock. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Home or to the Home Health/Hospice of Dickinson County. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory Council Grove Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
