The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Kinston. The graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park. Royce, son of Heber and Mary Turner Willoughby, was a native of Pitt County and grew up in the Bell Arthur Community. On June 14, 1947, he married Stella Smith and they made their home in Greenville. He worked at Greenville Utilities for 13 years. In 1966, he moved to Kinston and worked at the Kinston Public Utility Department, retiring in 1985 as the Water & Sewer Superintendent. He attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Kinston. He enjoyed dealing with cars and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Heber E. Willoughby; sister Pearl W. Haddock; and great-grandchild, Justin Willoughby. He is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Stella Smith Willoughby; sons R. L. Willoughby Jr. and wife Jenni, of Raleigh, David Willoughby of Fayetteville; and daughter, Mary W. Coleman and husband Jerry L., of Garner; grandchildren Michael and Kevin Willoughby, Michelle W. Naylor and husband Tony, Joseph Willoughby, Matthew Coleman and wife Huntre, B., Darren, Sydney, and Jacob Coleman; his great-grandchildren, Sommer and Cassidy Willoughby, and Wesley Coleman; sister Louise W. Haddock and husband Russell, of Fayetteville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service.
