Description	:	Rozelle Violet (Showalter) Kasal passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Brooklyn Community Estates after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Rozelle will be remembered as a generous and giving person who lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed being around people. She is survived by four daughters, Catherine McCluskey of Cedar Rapids, Wanda (Al) Lester of Aplington, Pam (Doug) Bannon of Marion, and Amy (Mike) Kirkey of West Branch. Read More	Rozelle Violet (Showalter) Kasal passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Brooklyn Community Estates after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Rozelle will be remembered as a generous and giving person who lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed being around people. She is survived by four daughters, Catherine McCluskey of Cedar Rapids, Wanda (Al) Lester of Aplington, Pam (Doug) Bannon of Marion, and Amy (Mike) Kirkey of West Branch. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and William Showalter, one brother, Leslie (Bud) Showalter, a grandson, Chris Lester, and former husband, Melvin Kasal. Rozelle was born in Brooklyn, Iowa, on August 10, 1926, and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1943. She went on to receive her Normal School training at Iowa State Teachers College and taught country school in Madison Township for two years before marrying Melvin Kasal in 1945. They farmed north of Brooklyn and were later divorced. Rozelle had a love of life and spent many hours giving her time at Brooklyn Community Estates where she was employed for thirty-one years prior to her admittance in October of 2007. The staff at Brooklyn Comununity Estates was like her second family where she served as an activities director and also filled as an aide. She also enjoyed spending time with her daughters and their families and the many activities her grandchildren were involved in. She was active in a number of card groups and enjoyed the time spent playing cards, going out to eat, being an avid Cub fan, and weekly visitors to Tama with her friends. Rozelle was a strong woman who kept her family together and was always there to listen and support the decisions that they made. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and whose live she touched, but she will live on in the hearts of those who had the joy to spend time with her and know her as a person. Funeral services were held at 11 AM Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, IA. Rev. John Dodds, Pastor, officiated assisted by Lyle Oswood. Anedra Sherwood was the musician and the soloist was Linda Krumm Ryal. Flower attendants were Norma DeWitt and Marilyn Montgomery. Casket-bearers were Adam Kirkey, Nate Lester, Ryan Kirkey, Derek McCluskey, Ben Bannon and Michael Christensen. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Nevenhoven Funeral Services, Brooklyn, IA, was in charge of arrangements.
