The Edina Sentinel, Edina, Missouri, October 16, 1919 Killed by Brother The entire neighborhood was shocked Saturday to learn of the untimely death of little Rozetta Catherine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Rutter, who was shot and instantly killed by her 7 year old brother, who was playing with a shot gun. The charge entered the right shoulder of the child, who was laying on the bed, and that part of her body and head were horribly mangled. She had been helping her mother carry in the clothes and after bringing in her load, climbed upon the bed. Mr. Rutter always was very careful to take the shells out of his gun before he came in the house. On October 10, they heard their chickens make a fuss as if an owl was taking after them, he took the gun and went to see what the trouble was, on returning he found he had a loaded shell in his pocket and thought he had taken the shell gun. Alferd took the gun to play with it when his mother and Rozetta was out to gather some clothes. Rozetta came in and put her load on a chair and run and jumped on the bed. Mrs. Rutter heard the report of a gun and run to see what was the matter when she saw her little Rosetta's head hanging, she grabbed her in her arms and hurried to call some one, Mr. Ze Rogers got in his car and hurried for Mrs. Potter and Mrs. Eaton and Mrs. Jess Browning, they all hurried and in a few minutes were there. Little Rozetta had passed away. She was a smart and industrious child. Rozetta Catherine Rutter was born Feb. 25, 1916, and died Oct. 11, age 3 years, 7 months, 16 days. Dear parents grieve not for her, we will point you to the lamb of God who doeth all things well to them that love the Lord, you can realize you have a treasure in heaven.
