Description	:	Ruben DeWald, the son of Adam Jr. and Emilia (Frey) DeWald, was born along with his twin sister, Ruby, on January 26, 1927 at Tripp, South Dakota and he departed this life December 5, 2012 at his home in Adaza, Iowa. Read More	Ruben DeWald, the son of Adam Jr. and Emilia (Frey) DeWald, was born along with his twin sister, Ruby, on January 26, 1927 at Tripp, South Dakota and he departed this life December 5, 2012 at his home in Adaza, Iowa. He lived his life to the age of 85 years, 10 months and 9 days. Ruben attended school at the Tripp High School. He joined the Army in April of 1945 and served in the Army Air Corp serving in Iceland. He received an honorable discharge in January of 1947. After returning home, he worked at various jobs until he took a job as a railroad telegrapher and started working for the Milwaukee Railroad on June 6, 1949 at Avon, S.D. He worked at various depots from Mitchell, S.D. to Charter Oak, Iowa. He also worked on the Sioux Fall Line, Platt Line and Armour Line, all in South Dakota. In 1954, he transferred to the Iowa Division at Perry, Iowa. He worked at depots in Perry, Spirit Lake, Sac City, Storm Lake and many others. While working in Adaza in 1954, he met Evelyn Annear who became his wife on February 5, 1955 at the Jefferson Methodist Church. They lived all of their married life in Adaza. Two daughters were born to this union, Pam and Paula. Ruben continued working for the Milwaukee Road until they closed the line in 1980. After the railroad closed, Ruben worked for Butler Mfg. Co. at Story City and then Frigidaire at Jefferson until he retired in 1990. After retiring, he decided to go back to work and worked as a security guard for Frigidaire for several years. Ruben was a member of the Lohrville United Methodist Church. Ruben enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially his many fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed working outside on his John Deere Mower and tractor. Due to health problems, Ruben spent much time at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll. He enjoyed giving the nurses a hard time and had nicknames for all of them. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 57 years, Evelyn; two daughters, Pam DeWald of Churdan and Paula Redmon of Jefferson, a granddaughter, Heather (Mark) Addy of Boone, three great-grandchildren; Kalei Bock, all of Boone, Tegan Bock and Jaelyn Addy; a twin sister, Ruby Faller of Perry and mother-in-law Isabelle Annear. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and their husbands; Elma (Luverne) Bennett, Vivian (Harold) Bryce and Violet (Henry) Bosma, a brother and his wife, Edgar (Leah) DeWald and a brother, Reynold DeWald who died in infancy. Also preceding him were his father-in-law, Eldon Annear, brothers-in-law; Wilbur Faller and Alvin Annear, a nephew Larry Bryce and two nieces; JoAnne Moody and Virginia Horstcotte. A celebration of Ruben's Life was held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lohrville Methodist Churdan with Pastor Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial was made in the Highland Township Cemetery at Churdan. Musical selections, "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Roger Blanchfield and accompanied by organist, Nila Spencer. Serving as casket bearers were Rick Bryce, Bill Bryce, Alan McCombs, Doug McCombs, Darwin McCombs, Denny Gravitt and Larry Sellers. Honorary bearers were Robert Gingery, Kenneth Johnson, Kent Wilson, Dick Hardaway, Leland Jones and Gerald McCombs. Visitation was after 4:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Friday evening at the Brown Funeral Home in Lohrville.
