Rev. C.B. Stanforth was in charge, assisted by Rev. R.L. Fletcher. The bodies were laid to rest in two caskets. The mother and baby Ellsworth were placed in one casket while Elnora Gertrude, Mabel Louise and Fred Jr. were in the other. All the bodies were shown at the church except Elnora Gertrude, who was too badly crushed about the head and face. It was said to have been the largest funeral ever largest funeral ever held in the town. The church was scarcely adequate for the occasion. Burial was in the West Lebanon Cemetery. The following obituary was read at the funeral service: Ruby Blanche Hurd, daughter of James A. and Mary C. Hurd, was born near Williamsport, Indiana, April 23rd, 1897. She graduated from the Williamsport High School with the class of 1915. One June 8th of the same year, she was united in marriage to Fred Bodine. Mr. and Mrs. Bodine have lived in this community ever since their marriage. For the past three years, Mr. Bodine has been managing the dairy farm just south of town. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Bodine was made happy with the coming of five children: Elsie Mae, born January 28, 1916; Elnora Gertrude, born July 2, 1919; Mabel Louise, born August 1, 1921; Fred, Jr., born July 11, 1923, and Ellsworth, born January 17, 1925. About 10:30 o'clock last Friday morning, March 6th, the happy mother with four of her children; Elnora Gertrude, Mabel Louise, Fred Jr., and Elsworth, and Miss Clara Hurd, Mrs. Bodine's cousin, of Marysville, Ohio, started out to spend the day at the home of Mrs. John DeBord, a short distance north of town. It was the first time Mrs. Bodine had been away from home since the coming of little Ellsworth. Miss Clara Hurd was driving the car. As they approached the Wabash crossing, Clara stopped the car to await for the passing of the east bound passenger train. As soon as the train had passed, Clara started to cross the track, unmindful of the switching freight train that was bearing down upon them. IN the awful accident that occurred four of the six occupants of the car were instantly killed, and the other two were so badly hurt that they died soon after the accident. Mrs. Bodine had a happy disposition. She was a kind, faithful wife and a good mother. Surviving are her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. James A. Hurd, of Newtown, Indiana; her husband, Fred; one little daughter, Elsie May; one sister, Mrs. John DeBord, of Williamsport; and one brother, Francis, at home. Jason Hurd, of Marysville, Ohio, came Saturday morning and took charge of the body of his daughter, Clara Hurd, who was also killed in the accident Friday. The body was prepared for burial by Fred Boyd and was shipped to Ohio Sunday morning. Realizing the tremendous expense to which Mr. Bodine would be to in the burial of his family, the Williamsport business and professional men and numerous citizens of the town contributed the sum of $282.50 to help defray this expense. Everybody was touched by the sadness of the tragedy and contributions were freely given. Mr. Bodine will continue to operate his dairy. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Bodine of Covington, will move to the Bodine home south of town Saturday and keep house for Fred and Elsie Mae, the only surviving child." - The Williamsport Pioneer, March 13, 1925
