Spiker, age 90, of Heath, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, 12 Neal Ave, Newark, with Pastor Shawn Morris officiating. She was born June 8, 1925 in Newark, Ohio to the late Guy and Carrie (Slocumb) Haynes. Ruby was a long-time member of Neal Avenue United Methodist Church attending for over 50 years. She was a very independent person living alone in senior living for twenty years at Mitchell Village and was a member of the Silver Club with Licking County Aging Program. Many have described Ruby as feisty and strong willed. Ruby will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Randy L. (Susan) Spiker of Newark; a daughter, Betty L. Ervin of Newark; a step-daughter, Linda K. Stoner of Centerburg; two grandchildren, Sherrie (Michael) Poling of Thornville and Kristin (Neil) Bush of Lakewood, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Braden Poling and Kaitlyn Bush; and a very special niece, Saundra Brooke of Newark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Spiker; a brother, Auther Haynes and a sister, Maude Simpson. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the memorial service from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ruby's name to the church elevator fund at Neal Avenue United Methodist Church, 12 Neal Ave, Newark, Ohio 43055. The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark is assisting the family with arrangements.
