Description	:	Mrs. Ruby Hurd McMillan, 96, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014. A 2 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014, at The Episcopal Church of the Messiah with Reverend Rocky Rachal officiating. Interment will follow at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. A lifetime Rockingham County (Mayodan) resident, Mrs. McMillan was born May 12, 1917, the daughter of the late, Charles Robert Hurd and Mary Landreth Hurd. A lifetime Rockingham County (Mayodan) resident, Mrs. McMillan was born May 12, 1917, the daughter of the late, Charles Robert Hurd and Mary Landreth Hurd. Mrs. McMillan graduated from Mayodan High School. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Messiah and retired from Washington Mills with over 40 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Webster McMillan on November 1, 1995 ; grandson, Jason McMillan; great granddaughter, Melanie Dalton; sisters Pearl Williams and Dorothy Hurd Reid; brothers, Oscar Hurd, Robert Hurd, Banner Hurd and Alfred Hurd. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all. She enjoyed reading as long as her eye sight permitted. Mrs. McMillan is survived by her son, Joseph Michael "Mike" McMillan and wife, Linda of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Lisa Dalton of Wilmington and Jennifer McMillan Lawrence of Reidsville; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Lawrence, Kailey Lawrence and Rico Hairston of Reidsville and Susan Webb of Greensboro.. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to The Episcopal Church of the Messiah, 114 South Second Avenue, Mayodan, N.C. 27027.
