Description	:	Ruby Jane Evans was born to Charles and Edith (Westphal) Meyers on July 28, 1914 at the family farm at Lake Preston, SD and entered into her eternal life on June 15, 2011 at the age of 96 years in Salem, Oregon. Read More	Ruby Jane Evans was born to Charles and Edith (Westphal) Meyers on July 28, 1914 at the family farm at Lake Preston, SD and entered into her eternal life on June 15, 2011 at the age of 96 years in Salem, Oregon. Her mother passed away when Ruby was 14 years old. She assisted her father in the care of her siblings and the responsibility of their home. Ruby married Elmo D. Evans on March 19, 1938 at the home of her father in Lake Preston. The couple moved to Centerville, SD, where they made their home for 71 years, and raised their three children. Ruby made pies for restaurants in Centerville in 1950, and began working as a teacher's aide for Special Education in 1960, a position she enjoyed for 15 years. She was gifted with her hands (crocheting, quilting, embroidery) creating beautiful treasures for her family and friends to cherish. She loved to cook, and was delighted when her table was surrounded by those she loved. She treasured her tea cup collection, cardinals, and enjoyed playing bingo. Her passion for gardening and all of her flowers brought her great pleasure. She loved to travel and spent the last few years living in the homes of her children. Ruby will be remembered as a kind, loving, giving mother --- a woman of grace and inner beauty that enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, The Centerville Garden Club, Ismah Temple #119 Daughters of the Nile, and the United Church of Christ. Ruby passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Salem, OR, surrounded by the loving hands of her family; as the sun set, she followed the light to her eternal home. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers Floyd and Donald Meyers, and her son-in-law Ray Cox. She is survived by her children: Wallace and Judy Evans (Rapid City, SD), Beverly Cox (Salem, OR) and Deanne and Lanny Owren (Canon City, CO); seven grand sons: David and Troy Evans, Todd and Chadley Owren and Derrick, Quinn and Travis Cox; 12 great grand children, 1 great great grandson; 3 sisters: Dorothy Howland of Shelton, WA, Shirley Matson (Maurice) of Arlington, SD and Charlotte Strande (Tony) of Visalia, CA; her treasured nieces and nephews and her very special 2nd family...the Don Poll family of Centerville. Services will be held on Monday, June 20th at 2:00 pm at the United Church of Christ in Centerville, SD. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow the services at the Riverview Cemetery in Centerville. Success is measured not by how much you have, but by how much you have given away.
