She was born Nov. 30, 1903, in Timmonsville, a daughter of the late James E. and Laura Whitehead Langston. She was a 1919 graduate of the Glenwood School in Florence County and a 1920 graduate of the Spartan Academy becoming qualified as a teacher. Read More	PAMPLICO " Ruby Langston Hyman, 100, of Payne, Ohio, formerly of Pamplico, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2004, in a Payne, Ohio, medical facility after a period of declining health. She was born Nov. 30, 1903, in Timmonsville, a daughter of the late James E. and Laura Whitehead Langston. She was a 1919 graduate of the Glenwood School in Florence County and a 1920 graduate of the Spartan Academy becoming qualified as a teacher. She continued her education receiving her First Grade Teachers Certificate. She taught in South Carolina schools until 1941 when she accepted a position with the Charleston Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. where she remained until after World War II. She attended Business School in Charleston. She assisted her mother in the operation of the 100-acre family farm. She also did paralegal work for the Federal Land Bank, The Production Credit Association and various other agencies. She married Charles Dewitt Fox Hyman in 1955. After his death in 1988, Mrs. Hyman became a resident of McClenaghan Place, a Florence retirement home. In 1990, Mrs. Hyman and her sisters, Jewell Bale and Dorothy Mims, lived together in Lynchburg. After Mrs. Mims™ death, the other sisters returned to Florence. In 2002, the sisters moved to Defiance, Ohio to be near Mrs. Hyman™s niece. In 2003, Mrs. Hyman moved to the Dallas Lamb Foundation Home in Payne, Ohio where she remined until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.D. Hyman; a brother, Troy Langston; and two sisters, Snow Sarvants and Dorothy Mims. Surviving are her sister, Jewell L. Bale of Defiance, Ohio; her nieces, Linda Bale Krouse of Defiance, Ohio, Betty Graham of Pamplico, Geraldine Weathers of Newport News, Va., and Laura Kaye Mims of Asheville, N.C.; and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Woodside Cemetery in Pamplico, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home. He life was directed by her faith and she will always be remembered for her strength of character, her kindness and her dignity in every step of her life.
