Read More	Ruby Lee Hofer was born to Melvin S. and Emma (Hofer) Hofer on December 1, 1943, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She passed away on February 21, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 75. Ruby grew up on a farm on the south edge of Bridgewater, South Dakota. She attended Bridgewater Public Schools graduating from Bridgewater High school in 1961. She continued her education at Dakota Wesleyan University graduating in 1965 with an elementary education major. Ruby’s entire teaching career of forty-one years was in the Dell Rapids Public School, Dell Rapids, South Dakota, where she taught various elementary grade levels until her retirement in 2006. After she retired, Ruby moved back to the farm near Bridgewater. Ruby had a deep faith in God. Upon the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, she was baptized by Rev. John J. Kleinsasser on July 3, 1955, and became a lifelong member of the Salem Mennonite Brethren Church. Although Ruby was a farm girl, she always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She found great joy in helping any student in whatever way she could. Ruby was an educator who truly cared about the young lives she touched. As a kindergarten teacher for twenty-seven years, she had the pleasure of being the first teacher of many Dell Rapids children. As the years progressed, she taught the children of her former students. Ruby had a lovely soprano voice. She sang in various choirs starting with her high school choir, the college choir, and later in her adult years community and church choirs. She also soloed at funerals, weddings, and provided special music for worship services. She enjoyed traveling. One of the highlights was to visit Russia and the village where her grandfathers were born. Ruby also visited Austria and the surrounding areas where her ancestors lived. As her parents were getting older, Ruby devoted much time to their well-being taking them to doctor’s appointments and attending to their various daily needs. After her father’s death, her mother went to live with her in Dell Rapids. Ruby treasured this special time that she had with her mother. Those looking forward to joining her in heaven include her sister Donna Glanzer of Madison, SD; her nephews Mark and his wife Christina and their children Ben, Anna, Sally, Marie, Henry, Ruby, and Joe of Mount Pleasant, TX; Michael and his wife Jean Marie and their children Sam, Emily, and Ruth of Brush Prairie, WA; nieces Michelle and her husband John Simpson and their children Nic, Andrew, and Annika of East Bethel, MN; Melissa and her husband Eric Casler and their children Konrad, Katiana, Sophia, Esther, and Kipling of Ashburn, VA, as well as cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law James Glanzer.
